One to print off and keep in your purse

This one is for you.

It is permission for you to treat yourself gently.

To stop rushing around, just for a bit.

To buy yourself that coffee and sit down at that cafe and enjoy that view.

To sit down with your book, or your knitting, or your TV programme.

To turn the phone off, or onto silent or vibrate - whatever lets you unhook for a few precious minutes.

Now then.

Breathe.

Everything is going to be OK.

It may not ever be perfect, and that's OK too.

Aiming for being OK is a healthy target to aim for every day.

Don't over-strive or over-give of yourself.

Keep some back for you.

If you leave the washing up, the laundry, the baby safe in the cot, the family table, the work meeting - even for five minutes - and escape (even to the loo) just to read through this script; and it helps you just get your head back together and your feet back on the ground: that's ok.

You are strong, and valid, and vital, and amazing.
Nobody out there needs to tell you that for it to be true because the truth is right here, inside you.

You just need to pause life every now and then to hear it again.

Love from Fostermummy X

    1. I am still an employee, and in recovery from a breakdown that I never thought I'd even live through. If anyone is in a workplace where they can't even go to the loo during a meeting, to manage their mental health or stress levels; they will assuredly end up in the same situation where I found myself. Ease the steam before you blow the lid.

    2. I'm also still an employee and absolutely agree that we need to ease the steam....

    3. I'm not an employee and never will be now, but I could have done with this years ago. It may have saved me from several days in coronary care units in 2 different hospitals, the diagnosis of a heart condition, and numerous sessions with a psychologist to come to terms with that. I was 43 at the time and in my final year of teacher training. These days I am gentle with myself, and the effects of stress in both a mental and physical sense should never be underestimated.

    4. I wholeheartedly agree with Fostermummy - and if what Frugal Queen (Froogs) says is tried on you it is against a lot of employment laws - believe it or not we do still have them in the UK!

We ALL have the right to take a reasonable break and especially if we are ill or in crisis. And no we cannot be sacked for doing so.

  6. You know that you are recovering well from a breakdown when you have the reserve and desire to reach out and help others. Well Done You. I agree, and reading a few blogs and joining in with a community of women around the world is what i do at lunch time to destress. Should i mention that im still sitting at my desk and answering phone in between mouth fulls while im destressing. LOL I started a blog this week - i would appreciate your feedback as Im a long term reader.

  7. I too am employed-just not for a salary. I left my job early because I could see where my health and sanity were heading. Yes, it was a less affluent lifestyle and yes I worried for a time about how we might manage. Nearly 6 years on and we are doing just fine. I am able to give me time and skills to help others and can even send spare stash to blog friends for their appeals. FM, I am sorry you have had a bad time with your health and I am glad you have the best job in the world now-grandmother to the gorgeous Delilah.

  8. This post resonates particularly with me at the minute for lots of various reasons. It is good advice and I will try hard to focus on it. I guess things are never as bad as they seem and there are ways round most things. Sometimes we all need someone to say 'its going to be ok'.

Thank you for taking the time to write this blog, I really enjoy reading it.
