A nice warm bum

Being of the short and curvy persuasion, I sometimes get a bit fed up with the fit of clothes.
I own three pairs of trouser-y things.
One pair of jeans, one pair of green combats and one pair of horrible leggings that I don't wear outside the house, except for gardening.
I am very much a skirt or dress girl, and in long weather there is nothing nicer than a long skirt over tights.

This time of year, I do like a warm bum, y'see.
At the mo I only have floor length skirts that are attached to dresses, so as soon as I can get near my sewing machine again I have plans to make myself a couple of nice long skirts from my fabric stash.
(I have to come clean and admit neither of these above is me....!)

I also want to make some patchwork cushion covers for the front room and am tempted to go traditional and paper-patch them as I can have a stack on the go wherever I am.

What about you?
Trousers or skirts?

  1. Trousers for me! I only have 1 skirt which I don't wear very often, well actually never! But it's suitable for work so I will keep it just in case

  2. Trousers for me I do not own a single skirt,or dress, not even a nightdress.I feel comfortable in trousers despite being a bit on the wobbly side still.

  3. I love dresses but I don't wear them enough. I find when I am working long ones I trip over, and short ones I'm not lady like enough at work to wear. So I usually wear long tops/ jumper dresses with leggings underneath.
I have just fixed a long one which has been on my mend pile since last summer, I will have to wear that one soon.

  5. Although fair fat and 60 I feel comfortable in trousers. The last time I wore a skirt for a night out my friend wanted to know who's legs I'd borrowed.lol
I do own skirts but I hate wearing them and can't wait to get changed if I put one on.

  6. Trousers, I find skirts restrictive and I don't like the girly look

  9. Skirts every time. Only trouble is in summer remembering to remove the yorkshire terrier wrapped round my legs

  11. For me and my age and being a bit overweight.....it's more elastic than anything....I haven't had a dress or skirt on in ages! Oh to be younger and thinner as I was once!

  12. Trousers! Although I really love skirts, long skirts. I find it much easier in the house to wear trousers.jeans, leggings etc. At the moment I'm wearing Merino wool tights, the Aldo ones designed for thermal use, one of the same tops, and a fleece pair of bottoms over said tights. A jumper and waistcoat complete the 'outfit'. I think it would be great if I wore a skirt, to wear the thermal tights underneath for warmth, otherwise the cockles would be very chilly.

  13. Trousers. Well, to be truthful, jeans. I have a few dresses which are very long but only wear them to church. I never wear trousers into a church. I find pants much more comfortable. Bend, squat, crawl or reach up for something on a shelf: nothing shows. And the way I look, you would all thank me!

  15. Yep, trousers for me too, despite not being the right shape. More practical and comfortable every time. Regarding your cushion covers, just go for it - you will either love paper patchwork or hate it. I first did some in the 70s when I was at school, but then did not do any until last year and made my mum a patchwork quilt for her 80th birthday. It took 11 months to make using all my spare time but was so worth it. Don't expect to make anything as quickly as Frugal Queen though - someone told me a while ago it was a labour of love, which I totally agree with. Best of luck.

  18. I do like my jeans. I found a cut that works for me, but I wish my body would just stay one size. I'm in my early 50s and my hormones are doing weird things to me! :) I just can't wait for it all to stabilise and I don't need three sizes of things to make sure stuff will fit! I should actually get of my bum and make my own stuff, but if I can buy it for less than the cost of patterns and fabric, then I reckon I am on a winner.
I love a nice skirt as well. My biggest problem is I'm not one size all over, so getting a good cut is an issue. I think I need lessons to help me work this out. Then there will be no stopping me! ;)
We need another granddaughter fix, FM! XXXXXXX ;)

  19. Jeans, every day and every chance I can possibly get. We even got married wearing jeans.

Comfy, warm and practical when you have animals AND if you get the fit right very flattering.

  20. Dresses for me. Nothing to do with being girly I find them more versatile for my small wardrobe, they dry quicker than most trousers and don't ride up like tops or squidge me in like trousers.
